These 3D-printed cones give a festive look to our waiting rooms and contribute to explain to everyone the kind of state-of-the-art technology our referrers and everyone at Cavendish Imaging are passionate about and that we use every day for the patients' welfare.
These C(L)ONE light shades were created by first scanning an Alder cone from Paddington Square on our Cone Beam CT Scanner.
The digital information from the scanner was then imported into computer-assisted-design (CAD) software. The digitised cone was then modified in the CAD software, by coring its centre and inserting a very thin hollow sleeve into the central void.
This C(L)ONE model was then 3D printed in our nylon laser-sintering machine to form these perfect replicas of the original cone, that are then finally slipped over LED lights to become magical decorations.
We hope that, when visiting us, you not only enjoy them for the exciting technology that made them possible, but also as a beautiful product in their own right. They have been designed by Digits2Widgets: Cavendish Imaging's sister company that focuses on the design applications of digital imaging and 3D printing technologies. All of the equipment and expertise that Cavendish Imaging utilise for the medical world is shared by Digits2Widgets to apply to the design world.
We wish you a Very Happy New Year and we hope to hear you too educating your friends and family on 3D scanning, 3D photography and 3D printing.
