CBCT Course for Referrers – Level 1 – Friday 12 Jan 2018
Due to the success of the previous Course for Referrers Level One, Dr Steve Colley, Consultant Radiologist and Dr Veronique Sauret-Jackson will deliver the course again to a new cohort of delegates. This is a highly sought after training session and we are expecting a high number of delegates. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
CBCT is now becoming common place in general dental practice. As CBCT technology has evolved, we can now use CBCT in a wider range of areas in dentistry meaning its use has dramatically increased and more dentists have direct access and the ability to use CBCT. With this in mind, the current HPA-CRCE-010 document and the latest EADMFR guidelines suggest General Dentists who are involved with CBCT need to fulfil their responsibilities by completing at certain level of education.
The CBCT course for referrers is for all our referrers and for all dentists who refer out their patients for CBCT. As “Prescribers” and “Prescribers who report”, this course will deliver the HOA-CRCE-010 and EADMFR-recommended content of adequate training.
Level One Learning Outcomes:
Describe what CBCT scans are, how they work and their role in diagnosis and treatment planning.
Discuss the differences between 2D and 3D imaging including comparative doses for CBCT and other dental examinations
Explain the risks of CBCT and describe how to minimise radiation risks to the patient
The biological effects of radiation and doses relevant to CBCT
Risks/benefits of radiation doses relevant to CBCT
Factors affecting CBCT radiation dose, CBCT image quality versus radiation dose
How changing machine settings affects CBCT image quality and x-ray quantity
Discuss the responsibilities of a CBCT referrer with regard to clinical information for justification purposes
Patient selection: pregnancy, potential pregnancy, infants and children
Data protection, patient confidentiality and the exchange of information
Explain why guidelines are important and have an understanding of a dentist’s legal and ethical responsibilities in their various roles of being Referrer, Practitioner and Operator
Explain what clinical and disease conditions would and would not benefit from CBCT imaging (selection criteria)
Recognise normal anatomy of the teeth and supporting structures
Identify the more common imaging artifacts
Discuss who should provide a radiological report
What a radiology report should include and how it can affect the treatment plan.
The cost of the event is £350 (£300 for regular Cavendish Imaging referrers*).
The event will be at Cavendish Imaging HARLEY STREET.

Current UK governmental guidance published by Public Health England and the EADMFR require all dentists who request, report or take CBCT scans to undertake a Core Training Programme in CBCT Radiography. The publication advises that a Level One and Level Two training programme should be completed. Level Two should be completed by those who wish to interpret and report on their CBCT images. Level Two cannot be undertaken until Level One has been completed. Both the GDC and CQC expect all dentists to follow these guidelines. On completion of the Level One/Two day course all delegates will receive a Level One/Two training certificate (once relevant feedback has been forwarded to Cavendish Imaging). This course has been modified so it is applicable to all the dentists who refer to a CBCT imaging site and do not have their own CBCT scanner or take their own CBCT images.
It is your attention to detail and high quality scans that set you apart from your competitors
