CPD COURSES LIST

seprator
starts 19 Mar 2019, 7:00pm
Cavendish Imaging Harley Street and Online

We are now taking registrations for the highly sought after Cavendish Imaging CBCT Masterclass 2019. There are very limited places available so please book early to avoid disappointment.

It is now mandatory for those who refer for Dental CBCT scans to complete a level one CBCT training course. Those who wish to report on CBCT scans will need to complete a Level Two course.

We understand that the hustle and bustle of busy lives sometimes make it impossible for you to dedicate your time to a full day course, let alone two days, so with that in mind we have devised a simple solution: The Cavendish Imaging CBCT Master Class. By working closely with both the Level One and Level Two learning outcomes, we have covered all the requirements in our CPD Sessions.

By attending each of the following sessions you will have covered the requirements for Level One and Level Two Training.

Due to the success of our previous CBCT Course for Referrers Level One, Dr Steve Colley, Consultant Radiologist and Dr Veronique Sauret-Jackson will deliver the course again to a new cohort of delegates. This is a highly sought after training session and we are expecting a high number of delegates. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

CBCT is now becoming commonplace in general dental practice. As CBCT technology has evolved, we can now use CBCT in a wider range of areas in dentistry meaning its use has dramatically increased and more dentists have direct access and the ability to use CBCT. With this in mind, the current HPA-CRCE-010 document and the latest EADMFR guidelines suggest General Dentists who are involved with CBCT need to fulfil their responsibilities by completing at a certain level of education.

Current UK governmental guidance published by Public Health England and the EADMFR require all dentists who request, report or take CBCT scans to undertake a Core Training Programme in CBCT Radiography. The publication advises that a Level One and Level Two training programme should be completed. Level Two should be completed by those who wish to interpret and report on their CBCT images. Level Two cannot be undertaken until Level One has been completed. Both the GDC and CQC expect all dentists to follow these guidelines. This course has been modified so it is applicable to all the dentists who refer to a CBCT imaging site and do not have their own CBCT scanner or take their own CBCT images.

The CBCT course for referrers is for all our referrers and for all dentists who refer out their patients for CBCT. As “Prescribers” and “Prescribers who report”, this course will deliver the HOA-CRCE-010 and EADMFR-recommended content of adequate training.

This Course links to Enhanced CPD Development Outcomes C and D. The CPD provided is verified and the course is subject to our Quality Assurance Processes. For more information on Enhanced CPD please contact 0121 456 0893.

On Friday 18 January 2019, Dr Steve Colley, Consultant Radiologist and Dr Veronique Sauret-Jackson, Consultant Medical Physicist, will be delivering the CBCT Course for Referrers Level Two.

CBCT is now becoming commonplace in General Dental Practice. As CBCT technology has evolved we can now use CBCT in a wider range of areas in dentistry, meaning its use has dramatically increased with more dentists having direct access and the ability to use CBCT. With this in mind, the HPA-CRCE- 010 and the latest EADMFR guidelines suggest General Dentists who are involved with CBCT need to fulfil their responsibilities by completing a certain level of education. “Two levels of training are recognized. Level 1 is intended to train dentists who prescribe CBCT imaging, such that they may request appropriately and understand the resultant reported images. Level 2 is intended to train to a more advanced level and covers the understanding and skills needed to justify, carry out and interpret a CBCT examination”

As our referrers know, we value working very close to them. Hence putting together the training
that follows very tightly the HPA-CRCE-010 and the EADMFR position paper on the basic training that our referrers require and also echoes the GDC emphasis on the importance of continuing education via verified CPD.

Cavendish Imaging referrers, and all dentists who do not have their own scanning equipment and refer out their patients for CBCT are “Prescribers” and “Prescribers who report”. For them, the EADMFR recommends the content of adequate general training.

Cavendish Imaging have modified the course content so it is applicable to those who refer to a
CBCT imaging site and do not have their own CBCT scanner.

Over the years of our imaging practice and applied research, we have learnt how much can be gained diagnostically from knowing how to manipulate digital images. This CPD session supports our fundamental goal, which is that you get the most out of our images by being confident with the imaging software that you use.

We believe in sharing our knowledge and expertise so that all medical imaging practitioners will be able to ensure patient safety and better treatment outcomes. CBCT and Medical Imaging technology is amazing, but can only deliver the results that will make the difference to the patient’s journey if it goes hand in hand with the correct training, education and clinical information.

On Thursday 29th March we are delighted to host Professor Tara Renton who will deliver the session “Risk assessment of Mandibular Third Molars, Implants and Endodontic Related Nerve Injury”

Professor Tara Renton, Specialist in Oral Surgery, is a Dentist with a particular interest in trigeminal nerve injuries and pain. After completing her Oral and Maxillofacial surgical training in Melbourne Tara undertook a PhD in trigeminal nerve injury at King’s College London (KCL) 1999-2003. She was later appointed Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary’s University, London and then was awarded her chair in 2006 at Kings’ College London.

In collaboration with Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London and Imperial College. Tara and collaborators have established an international leading programme of trigeminal pain research. Tara is the National Advisor for Oral Surgery, as well as being President of BAOS she is an elected member of the RCS England Dental Faculty Committee.

Sensory nerve injuries related to surgery are rare but have a significant impact on the patients and clinicians involved. Chronic post-surgical neuropathic pain due to these nerve injuries cause significant functional and psychological problems. Nerve Injury can be caused by dental procedures including Local anaesthesia, Endodontics and Third Molar Extractions. Optimal risk assessment is key in preventing these iatrogenic nerve injuries and utilizing CBCT analyses coupled with a thorough clinical dental examination are essential in treatment planning these invasive procedures. However, unexpected invasion of selected nerve pathways may result, with even the best preparation. Immediate diagnosis, intervention, and management are critical in minimizing permanent nerve damage in our patients. From recently published information in Implant Dentistry Journal (2016-2017), perspectives on nerve injury during dental surgeries will be highlighted.

This lecture will update participants in the prevention of trigeminal nerve injuries during dental surgery and is aimed at Oral Surgeons, Endodontists, Implantologists, General Dentists and anyone with an interest in this field.

On Thursday 4th April, Dr Anthony Druttman will join us to deliver “CBCT Imaging and Endodontics”

Tony is committed to continuing postgraduate specialist education. In addition to attending conferences in the UK and abroad, he has lectured in the UK and at international congresses on endodontics topics. He is currently a guest teacher in endodontics in the Department of Continuing Professional Development at the Eastman Dental Institute for Oral Healthcare Sciences. He is a past president of the British Endodontic Society and is an active member of the European Society of Endodontology. He has been closely involved in the organization of postgraduate meetings of both these Societies. He is also a contributing author to ‘Endodontic Practice’, the leading specialist publication, and is a member of the Editorial Board.

CBCT scanning was introduced for dental diagnosis almost two decades ago. In recent years CBCT imaging has increased in popularity. A recent survey of endodontists in the USA for the American Association of Endodontists showed that over 50% of specialists had CBCT imaging systems installed in their practices. Add to that the number that would be using external imaging services (not quantified in the survey) and it is obvious that this diagnostic modality is rapidly becoming an essential part of endodontic practice. In the near future, there is little doubt that it will become the standard of care. The purpose of this presentation is to give those carrying out endodontic procedures and those referring patients for endodontic procedures an overview of the rationale for using CBCT imaging in endodontics. The advantages and limitations of both intra-oral radiography and CBCT will be discussed from a clinical point of view.

This session is aimed at Endodontists and those with an interest in endodontics. Thos with an interest in Dental CBCT Imaging will also benefit.
